Pumpkins, Number Lines, and More

Hello everyone!

We have been busy Grade 1’s this past week learning lots of new things. In Math we started learning about 1 and 2 more, using blocks and number lines to help us solve problems. During one activity we worked in partners to come up with our own problems and help each other solve them using number lines.

We have also been super readers learning to use different strategies like Chunky Monkey, Fish Lips, and Word Detective when reading our books. Word detectives look for the words they already know in a book so we began making lists of all the words we knew in our books.

We continued learning about pumpkins this week using their seeds to practice estimation, we learned about the life cycle of a pumpkin, and we used white pencil crayon and oil pastels to create some new art for the classroom.

Have a great week!

Pumpkins and the 5 Senses

Today we used our 5 senses to explore our very own pumpkin. We did so many different things with it. We pulled all the seeds and guts out of the inside, we learned what pumpkins smell like, we learned how to draw a pumpkin, and we all made estimates of how many seeds are in the pumpkin.

We also wrote some words to describe the pumpkin using each of our 5 senses.

Number Sense

We have been working very hard in Grade One this past week.

In Math we have been focusing on our number sense. We have been busy counting to 100 by 1s and 10s, as well as counting from 1-20 forwards and backwards.

We are also working on representing numbers to 20 in different ways!
