Hello everyone!
We have been busy Grade Ones all week learning lots of new things! In Inquiry we have been talking about the uniforms community helpers wear and learning about what a landmark is. We are working on determining what places in our own community are landmarks too.
In Math we are starting to learn all about sorting and patterns. We have learned how to copy and extend a friend's pattern and are now working on creating many different patterns using 2 or 3 elements. Did you know you can even make patterns with sounds like clapping?
We are also working on being super readers who use all of our reading strategies. We have been learning lots of Chunky Monkey sounds like th, ch, sh, ee, oo, and wh. This week we learned all about the bossy r and then looked for words that have the bossy r sound in our books.
Just a reminder that our Winter Concert is coming up on Thursday December 12 (only 2 weeks away!). All the Grade Ones have been working so hard learning their songs and speaking parts. We are so excited for you to come and see it!

School Updates
Thank you to those of you that have already booked your conference time.
Tomorrow is Crazy Hair Day. Students can make their hair up in a silly way or wear a silly headband or hat to show school spirit.
The school is also collecting non perishable food items for the Calgary Food Bank to give to families in need. Acceptable donations include canned vegetables, soup, noodles, crackers, cookies, and cereal.
Finally, just a reminder that there is no school on Friday November 22 due to conferences.

Remembrance Day
Last week we learned about Remembrance Day and why it is important to remember those who fought so we could live freely today. Throughout the week we did some writing on what peace means to us, soldiers, and poppies while exploring the holiday.
